A modem provides the connection from your ISP’s broadband service and Multy X has to to connect to a modem via an Ethernet cable to gain the access to the Internet. Multy X is an example of a wireless router. Once a modem brings in information from the Internet, a router distributes this data to your personal devices.

What is a modem?

A modem is a device that provides access to the Internet. It connects to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) which typically provides either cable or DSL Internet service for sending information between the outside world and your home.

What is a router?

A router allows multiple computers or devices to join the same network and send information from the Internet to devices. While early routers provided several Ethernet ports for wired connections, most modern routers offer wireless connectivity as well.
