nas326 initial setup never logs in

'logging in"
Initially, I was prompted to setup a new username/pw, but it would never take a new username pw, but if i let it take admin/1234, it would take it...
Anyways. tried resetting the device using the 1 beep method as well as 2 beep method. Now it never acknowledges the login as successful or failed, but simply never completes and says "logging in"

Resetting the unit after 3 beep juncture (press and hold reset button, i.e. page 16 of the User's Guide), I was able to login with admin/12340
