NAS326 email settings

I cannot get my NAS to send a log report to gmail for my nas. I consistently get "Send test email result: error".
I generated and used a google app password, but still get the error.
Do I need to change the smtp port? If so, how?

try another mail server with using SMTP port 25.

I've been looking through the forum for a way to persist changes to /etc/msmtprc so I can specify the required port and other options. Ideally, I'm looking for something like the 3rd party "Tweaks" that modifies cron and ftp config. I haven't been able to find the local system file that gets persisted as /etc/msmtprc after a reboot. Does anyone know where to start looking?
