NSA325v2 fails to initialize disks

My NAS has been working fine for a couple of years with 2 x HGST Deskstar 4Tb drives arranged as JBOD. Never had any problems except it's now full. I have 2 x HGST Ultrastar 6Tb drives for the upgrade. The initialization starts and gets to 25% which is "creating the volume" and then it times out. Does it with just one drive and the both. Running Windows 10 Version 1709 Build 16299.904. When I revert to the 2 x 4Tb drives everything is fine. Can anyone help?
