Hi,
I also have a problem, when I try to install the ".spk" file I get this error returned:
"Cannot extract /i-data/c18e343f/.PKG/PlexMediaServer/share/PlexMediaServer/tmp/Install/synology/package.tgz"
Does anyone know how I can solve this?0 -

Hi all, I was also having the exact same issue as everyone, trying to install the latest version. I was able to install version PlexMediaServer-1.19.1.2621-b249be3b0-armv7hf_neon.spk which I downloaded from here:
It is quite an old version though.

Hi
Is server down?

Hi,
Having same problem as reported above - now with
PlexMediaServer-1.41.6.9685-d301f511a-armv7neon_DSM7.spk
Isn't that the correct file?
The tar reports something like "skipping header 'z'" a lot of time and then i get "cannot extract […]/package.tgz"
It used to work - has something changed?

has something changed?
Yes. Plex changed the version of tar they use to create the package. I researched this issue some time ago, the result is somewhere in this forum. In short, the .spk file is a compressed tar file, among other files containing that package.tgz file. That package.tgz file contains the actual Plex server.
The installer extracts the .spk file, and expects to find the package.tgz file on a certain place, but it isn't there. That yields the error message. It isn't there because the firmware tar fails in extracting the spk file correctly. Some files are double, some files are missing.
A work around could be to re-archive the spk file. Just extract it (on a Linux system) and create it again. Maybe the same has to be done with the inner package.tgz file.

Aw, that is not good…
But thanks a lot for your help!
I have no access to a Linux system except the one on the nas - do you say that the resident tar cannot handle the spk file? Could I simply upgrade tar on the system and hope that the update procedure will use the new tar to do the server update?0 -

Yes.
Could I simply upgrade tar on the system and hope that the update procedure will use the new tar to do the server update?
Sortof, maybe. You can't upgrade tar, as it is build in in busybox. But you can install another tar, and change the install script to use that. For instance you could install Entware-ng, and on that install tar. And then in the install script change every call to tar in /opt/bin/tar. I haven't tested that, and I don't know if the Entware tar will be able to handle the spk file. But there is definitely a chance. The firmware tar is an old squeezed busybox version, while Entware will contain the full GNU tar.

That sounds easy enough - but my linux management skills are old and rusty.
Let's see - where do I find the install script?
Really grateful for your assistance
