Expand capacity via usb external drive

I have two ZyXel 325v2 Nas. Is it possible to expand the hard disk capacity attaching a external Har Disk to the usb port ? If yes how this could be done ? 
I know that this is possible on some NAS

You can expand the storage capacity, not the disk capacity. If you plugin an USB disk with supported filesystem (for an 325 that is FAT and NTFS) it will be shared over network. But it will be slower than internal disks.
