NR7101 - Help me figure our why my 5G is so slow...

TLDR; my NR7101 reaches 113/44 MBit/s while my phone, at the exact same location, reaches > 785/125 MBit/s. Why?

NR7101:

  • 1.00(ABUV.10)C0 and RG502QEAAAR13A02M4G (waiting on the other thread to land somewhere on upgrading model to A04, but all previous modem versions had the same issue)
  • Bridge mode, disabled UMTS, Preferred Access Technology = AUTO (5G-NSA leads to the same result, no connection AFAICT in 5G-SA), PTS = Combine, Band auto selection, PLMN Auto selection, NO LTE or 5G lock
  • Clean error/dropped packets for both WAN and LAN
  • IP Passthrough disabled, PLMN=22801, TAC = 3333, Access Technology NR-NSA EN-DC, band = LTE_BC1, current CA combination of BC1, BC3, BC7, BC28, BC3, N78

iPhone:

  • iPhone 13 Pro, IOS 18.0.1, 5G set to Auto (not purely SA)
  • Same 5G subscription (shared) as the NR7101 (but different SIM obviously)
  • TAC=3333, PLMN=228 01, 5G-NSA, 5G band = N78, 100MHz, LTE = 7 in screen below, but has been 3 as well, so changes), same as what I see on the NR7101

As such, it seems that the iPhone syncs up to the same tower/antenna, share the same two bands (BC1 and N78), but doesn't use as many others (BC3, BC7, BC28), but the performance is 5-6x weaker on the NR7101. Any thoughts? I've tried pretty much everything I could find in those forums, but nothing has worked. What am I doing wrong? am I supposed to lock to some 5g endpoint only?

Thanks!

Try this, in manual band selection only check BC3, BC7, N78.

Do a speedtest, then add BC28 and another speedtest.

Uncheck BC28 and add BC1 and do another speedtest.

You have to wait between every change until you get internet…..

    OK!

    So, …

    …with BC3, BC7 and N78: 113/32 [mbit/s] (91/92 with speedtest.net from a browser)

    …adding BC28: 115/26 [mbit/s]

    … removing BC28 and adding BC1: 91/36 [mbit/s]

    ⇒ no real impact :(

It looks like your lan speed only 100M not 1000M/Full.

    Am i right?

    Check your system info.....

No, I'm in Gigabit mode (and even @ 100mbit/s that would probably not impact the calculation of the embedded speedtest happening in diagnostics mode on the device)

No, are you suspecting my SIM is limited in bandwidth?

some Sim plans limit you to 100Mb I know my EE plan does when doing a speed test it overshoots then limits

same here after last LTE firmware upgrade. Before this update I was on 600Mbps/100Mbps; after updating 50Mbps/70Mbps
