i am not planning to use it as main nas, i already have OpenMediaVault server but i want to repurpose nsa310s as backup host offsite.

also i did find the new link. now is there a way to install wireguard on nsa310s/armv5 for point-to-point connection?

I can understand the goal for not throwing away any functional hardware. However, if it would be a Windows 7 computer (which have far more updated security patches) with low power consumption I doubt you would use it.
Anyway: if your connection between onsite and offsite allows to use FTP i'd strongly suggest you to consider it as alternative.
