Seems that I have faced the same issue with my XGS1250-12. Last night there was a short power outage and this morning I found the 10G ports down and couldn't revive them.

I bought the switch in July 2022, thus right now it is out of the 2y warranty. The 1G ports work just fine and I can still manage the switch via its web interface. Plus it has the latest firmware (V2.00(ABWE.0)C0).

Is this a known hardware issue (being sensitive to power outages on 10G ports)?

Can I still raise a RMA request?

Seems that I just faced the same issue as described above with my XGS1250-12. Last night there was a short power outage and in the morning I found that all 10G ports were not usable anymore, although just one was used when the power outage happened.

On the other hand, all 1G ports are working just fine and I can still access and manage the switch via the web interface.

The switch was bought on 12.07.2022, thus it is out of the 2y warranty.

Is this already a known hardware issue? Can I still raise a RMA request?

This is an interesting thread. I recently updated one of my two Zyxel XGS1250-12 units to version "V2.00(ABWE.1)C0". That one worked fine, although on that unit I'm using one of the RJ-45 ports (connected at 10 Gb) and the SFP (also 10 Gb). (ports 11 and 12)

However, on the other one, after updating it to that same version, port 10 just died. It had been connecting just fine at 2.5 Gbps, but as soon as it rebooted after updating, poof, gone. It won't connect at any speed now, and I tried multiple devices.

I tried downgrading back to version "V2.00(ABWE.0)C0" but that port is still dead. I also tried forcing the speed on it to 2.5 Gb/Full, or on some other devices at 100 Mb/Full or 1 Gb/Full like they support, but nothing worked.

I bought them both in April 2022 so they're well outside any warranty window, I'm just posting here as a "me too" so that people experiencing this know they're not alone, and also so maybe Zyxel can aggregate some of this data.

It may have nothing to do with the firmware update … maybe there's some hardware attached to each port that can eventually die after a period of time, and it's the rebooting that finally makes it die. I saw some people had ports die just after a reboot and nothing to do with firmware updating, so that makes sense.

If I had something else I could use instead, I'd be tempted to open it up and see if some capacitor or diode on that specific port died, but since I haven't opened one of these up, I don't know if it would be something that simple, or if it's an IC that could have died.

It's frustrating and I'm just glad I was able to move my critical load (it's on my firewall) over to port 9 instead of port 10. But now I feel like there's a ticking clock before the rest of them die. :(

I'll be shopping for a replacement for "just in case", preferably something that can ship overnight if I had to, or if the price is right just get it now and disconnect this one to use as a spare for if/when any ports on my 2nd unit start to die.

It's too bad because these have been pretty consistent units, and I was happy that I got a negotiated 10 Gb speed over a longish run of Cat5a so it does seem pretty good. The 2.5Gb ports all connected fine to my desktops, and the 10Gb SFP works fine to stack into the rest of my enterprise network switches. I really only bought the pair of them to have a good way to connect RJ-45 over the fastest link possible, and I can probably find something else to do that now.

    Hi @MPNetworks,

This is more likely a hardware issue. Please submit an RMA request via the below link:

Thanks - I was able to complete the RMA form and I'm doing the "advance" option to get the replacement before sending the old one back. Overall it was a pretty straightforward process. I think the hardest part for me was finding the correct page to start the RMA process for someone outside the EMEA region. :)

I probably won't be able to find out what the issue was with the original hardware, but maybe they'll let me know when they receive it and examine it. I suppose that kind of info might be useful to anyone else having this issue, or possibly how to avoid it. In my case, my network stack is behind a large APC BackUPS so I wouldn't imagine it would be caused by any kind of power surges, and the network connection itself on the port that died is just a short half meter (19 inches or so) to a firewall just above it, so I wouldn't expect any issues there either.

It really was just an immediate issue with the firmware update. Everything was stable when I applied the firmware, and after a few minutes I wondered why I couldn't reach my firewall. Went to look and the LAN side of it plugged into port 10 was no longer showing any lights at all. Power cycled the switch, rebooted the firewall, etc. Fortunately port 9 was available so I moved it to that one and it's all working, so I started trying other equipment on port 10. A spare IP camera, another computer, tried different manually set speeds (100 Mb/full for the IP camera, 1000 Mb/full for a computer) and nothing at all was working. Tried doing the factory reset on the switch, did a downgrade to the firmware it was running previously, etc. and that port just wouldn't light up. Very strange.

I'm glad Zyxel has the advance RMA process… you do have to supply a credit card # but seems like they'll only bill you anything if you fail to return the old device. That makes sense for a non-business end user, so overall I'm happy with the RMA process thus far.

If you wanted, you have the option to return the old unit first and then they'll either repair or replace it, but for me, since my switch is still in use and I need something there, it wasn't an option, but maybe for some folks they have something else they could temporarily use. I mean, I could have temporarily used an older 1Gbps switch, but I rely on those 2.5Gb and 10Gb connections so it would have had an impact.
