"Power On Schedule" issue on NAS542
Freshman Member
Hello
I use two NAS Systems. One NAS326 and one NAS542.
Both NAS systems are not needed at night. Therefore, Control Panel - Maintenance - Power - Power On/Off Schedule has been set to shut them down automatically.
This works without any problems on both systems.
A Power On schedule has also been set for restarting the systems. This works well with/on NAS326.
NAS542 starts later and later every day. It is set that it should start at 06:30am. Currently it boots only at about 04:00pm by itself. So I always have to boot it manually.
Synchronizing date and time of both NAS is working fine. Both using the same time server. Checking the current date and time on both systems is showing absolutely identical informations. The set time zone is also the same.
What is the problem and is there a solution for it?
Thanks in advance for answers.
Regards … Stefan

That sounds as if the RTC is loosing time, or if it's not synchronized. The latter can be checked in a shell.
Login over ssh, and execute
su rtcAccess show date --utc
rtcAccess and date should show the same time. If it's not synchronized, you could try to execute
rtcAccess systortc
to see if that solves you problem.
If the timestamps are the same, you can test if the RTC is loosing time by letting it power up without internet connection (without time server), and look which time it thinks it has. If it's off you could try to replace the RTC battery. Problem is that the NAS is not designed to make that easy. Here you can find a photo of the PCB.
A work-around for your problem is to use wake on lan. You could wake it up when needed, or let the '326 wake it up on boot.

Hi,
thanks for your fast reponse.
rtcAccess and date have not shown the same time. After execution of
rtcAccess systortc
it looks better.
I will keep an eye on it!!

Just an additional information.
After several weeks i recognized, that the NAS was booting later and later again each day.
I checked if i can change the battery, but i decided another solution.
I added a cronjob which is executing each day
rtcAccess systortc
Since this time it boots each day automatically at the configured time.
