LTE7490-m904 SMS management
Freshman Member
Good Morning, looking into the manual of the LTE series that is including the indoor routers too, this is not so clear, so I ask. Being a 4G outdoor CPE, using a mobile connection, quite often there is the needs to have access to the SMSs to be able to manage the mobile subscription. On the LTE7490 it looks like this is not possible, or at least I can't find into its menu any SMS related field. Is it really this way?
If so, I find it quite a big lack on the standard firmware, also considering it's very unpractical to have to go on a roof to recover a sim card, put it in a mobile to be able to read the messages.

Hi @Gordian,
Thank you for reaching out to the Zyxel Community regarding SMS management on your LTE7490-M904. I understand the inconvenience of not being able to access SMS directly on an outdoor CPE.
Based on our current information and community discussions, the LTE7490-M904, as an outdoor mobile router, typically does not support direct SMS management through its web interface. While some Zyxel mobile routers like the FWA505 do offer SMS functionality via the local web GUI, this feature is not consistently available across all outdoor CPE models due to their product positioning.
For devices that do support SMS, the general path to access it would be
Network Settings > Broadband > Cellular SMSin the web interface. However, multiple users have reported that this option might be missing or not fully functional on certain outdoor models, even with the latest firmware. If you require SMS access to manage your mobile subscription, here are a few points to consider:
- SIM Card Removal: The most straightforward, though inconvenient, method is to temporarily remove the SIM card and insert it into a mobile phone to read and manage SMS messages.
- ISP Services: Some ISPs offer services to resend SMS messages to a designated phone number, which could be helpful for receiving important notifications or OTPs. It is recommended to check with your service provider if this option is available.
- Firmware Updates: While not guaranteed to add SMS functionality if it's inherently unsupported, ensuring your device has the latest firmware is always a good practice for optimal performance and bug fixes. You can find the latest firmware for your LTE7490-M904 on the Zyxel support site.
To help us investigate this further and provide the most accurate information for your specific device, please provide the following details:
- Current Firmware Version: This can be found in the device's web interface.
- Screenshots: If possible, please provide screenshots of the available menu options under
Network Settings > Broadbandin your LTE7490-M904's web interface. This will help confirm if the "Cellular SMS" option is indeed missing.
We understand the importance of this feature for managing mobile subscriptions, and your feedback is valuable for future product development.

Hallo, I am evaluating the workaround to the issue you posted, and I understand the point of view that many outdoor routers do not have the sms function implemented in their firmware, but I still see the lack of logic of that. On an indoor router is much easier to take the sim out and put it in a mobile phone than it is on an outdoor router, yet you implemented the SMS function on the LTE5398 and not on the LTE7490, even being the firmware extremely similar on routers based on the same modem module EG18.
Unfortunately the other suggestion about having the possibility to read the SMS on the MNO app is conflicting with some privacy rules that at least in Europe are getting implemented and are pushing to strip this function from those apps and websites.Anyway, attached you'll find the screenshot of the Broadband page,
and the one that shows the firmware in use V1.00(ABQY.9)C0 that is the latest available at the moment.
