Hi All,

I recently got the Zyxel FWA710 for my farm network. This router serves as my 5G internet gateway for the farm. While setting it up, I realized that the built-in WiFi is only for management purposes — something I wasn’t aware of at the time of purchase. While I’m happy with the 5G reception, I want to explore the best way to set up a reliable WiFi network across the farm.

Here’s my current plan:

  • Connect Zyxel (LAN) → Gigabit Switch → (WAN) Access Point → WiFi
  • I want other devices to connect via LAN as well, which is why I’m using a switch.

My goals:

  1. Create a flat network where all devices are on the same IP range.
  2. Use the Zyxel as the DHCP server.
  3. Deploy multiple access points by running additional LAN cables from the switch to different areas of the farm.

Questions:

  • How do I configure the access points so there’s seamless WiFi coverage across the farm (single SSID roaming)?
  • What would be some recommended access points for stable outdoor and semi-outdoor farm use?
  • Is there anything else I should keep in mind to maintain a stable, farm-wide network?

Thank you

B

    Hi @bbfarm

About the roaming, it is recommended:

    1. Ensure APs have overlapping coverage (15-20% overlap is recommended).
    2. Configure APs with the same SSID and security settings.

You may refer to the following FAQs for more details:

About the outdoor AP, you may consider NWA55AXE or WAX655E, which arms the ourdoor WiFi application.

Just one reminder, since FWA710 doesn't support VLAN on LAN interface, you just need to ensure not to set VLAN on the SSID.

Where do I see the list of DHCP leases, I want to set static IP for my AP's and some other devices. Where do I see this?

    Hi @bbfarm

You may check the connectivity in the home page, or the Network monitor > ARP table to check the DHCP clients.
