Hi guy's. I made some changes to my Zyxel NAS540 and now the transferspeed from my PC to the NAS is darn slow. I just get 2~4 MB/s. It used to be about 60 MB/s.

What i changed is:
Made a NFS share.
Activate the SSH terminal option.
Added in etc/exports the insecure option.

Now when i copy files like 4K movies etc to the NFS share it's real slow.

I haven't changed that much. Before it was real fast, after that it was this slow. Guess it does have something to do with the insecure option and the NFS share. I need the insecure option because otherwise the NFS share is not visible in Kodi.

Anyone has any idea what i may have done wrong?

PS i have a standalone PC with AMD Ryzen 1600, NAS540 4x2TB WD red, Gigabit ethernet connected by a Netgear Prsafe 8 switch.

i think everyone would appreciate if you give us some more details like:
how are you connected to the NAS? usb ? ethernet? wireless?
do you download-upload somewhere else at the same time?
are you sure that is not a hard drive issue at your pc ?

I am connected by a Gigabit ethernet switch. The PC has a M.2 SSD. The NAS has 4x2TB WDred on raid 5.

It used to be fast but after the NFS share has been made the speed dropped and is going up and down like a wave. I don't use the network when coping so only the pc and nas connection is used.

Is this slow speed over NFS only, or is Samba also affected?

I tested some copying to the samba share to. It looks like it is back to normal again now.

    first i had:
above is from PC to NAS
below is from PC to USB stick

After that i copied some files to the samba of the NAS
Above is from PC to NFS share
Below from PC to samba share

Looks like the normal 60 MB/s is back again.

Now i have the normal 60/MB/s. it does wave al lot in speed but normal copying is possible again. Strange but i am pleased.

could it be some awakening from the NAS?

It might be a good idea to use Wireshark to look at the network traffic. Maybe you have a packet storm, maybe you have a big number of NACK's on the Samba stream.

what i'm also considering is to reset my NAS to factory and start all over again. I want to make a single NFS share without Samba. A fresh install looks to me as the best solution.

guys. is changing the sync option to async in etc/nfs a good thing to improve performance?

I read something about files getting corrupted when the NAS is not correctly shut down. Do they mean that files can get corrupted during copying or do they also can get corrup
