Hi, thanks for answering. Yeah the led is blinking slowly and the disc are spinned down, so I am pretty sure it is not being accessed. My concern is not so much security, as is the noise- the fan is constantly running and in complete silence at night it is pretty disturbing.
I don't really mind waiting for it to power on when needed, but I would like it to be started automatically when someone tries to access it, instead of having to manually run a wake on LAN utility, but that sems to be rather complicated to set up.

I guess so, I can sure the NAS doesn't have the function to control the fan in web GUI.
And no command line to support fancontrol and monitor disk spinned down.
So it will be very complicated to stop the fan running while the disc into sleep mode..

    Hi,

I found this forum post but it didn't really solve my problem of the HDDs which don't go to sleep. See below my processes running, I have no packages installed and all except the ftp option is enabled. One camera sends a still images every noon to my HDD via FTP which is only one file per day. So no media server, iTunes etc etc.

But still I can never find my NAS in sleep mode although it's enabled. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Seeing your 'top' list, I see that fileye.pyc uses a lot of memory, which suggests it's active. The Tweaks package says:

Python script. Has something to do with various uploaders, flicker, ftp, google drive. Allocates lots of memory.

And has an option to disable it.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I tried to find anything related but AFAIK everything is switched off. I did a factory reset (latest FW) to start from scratch.
Again disabled everything I could find including FTP, removed the cloud package, disabled the thumbnail generation on ZyxelCloud (apparently that's on even without an account and no installed package).
I changed the IP address so no LAN devices can even access it. but still the HDDs don't spin down.

Below is my top list, I see roughly the same memory usage as prior the factory reset. Does this even work or am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance.
