Hi

Anyone that knows what this means? I have not seen any link up/down. Happened 9 days ago on one port. And yesterday on two ports. Hardware fail? The switch is just 2 weeks old.

    Hi @peos42 ,

From your description and the logs, it seems like you're experiencing some PoE (Power over Ethernet) issues with your switch, particularly on ports 6 and 7. Please try these troubleshooting steps:

    Check Physical Connections:

    • Try using different Ethernet cables to rule out cable issues.
    • Connect the affected PoE devices (PoE Access point, PoE camera...) to different ports (not port 6 & 7) to determine if the issue follows the devices or stays with the original ports
    • Connect different PoE devices to ports 6 and 7 to see if the behavior persists

    Verify PoE Requirements:

    • Confirm the power requirements of your connected devices are within the switch's PoE capabilities
    • Check if the total PoE power consumption is within the switch's power budget.

    Hi

This is a PoE++ Switch. So the changes you connect devices that are out of spec wont exist…. Port 6 is a class 0 device and takes 4.8W (A cisco 8 port switch), Port 7 is a class 0 device and taks 2.6W (Axis outdoor business camera M3026-VE). Just checked the power values. Totat power used on switch is 46W at the moment. I.e almost nothing…

Now @Zyxel_Judy … The chance that several ports at the same time will have trouble because of of cable issues is zero to none. I replaced a netgear switch recently with this Zyxel XS1930-12HP and have only moved the 1 feet patch cables between the patch panel and the switch over to the new Zyxel. Nothing else touched. So you could take away cable problems. And the Netgear Prosafe has run flawlessly and delivered PoE on these cables for two years with no problem. Now with the zyxel this log came up after just a day on one port and the again days later, but on two ports. The switch has only been used for two weeks.

It is for sure switch related!

However… I have not seen any link up/down. Yet…. The ports logging this "PethPse" seems to have uptime in hours since I connected it to the port and did not flap up and down when his message occurred.

Is this new switch about to fail?

    //Peo

    Hi @peos42 ,

To thoroughly investigate the issue, please share your XS1930-12HP's tech support file with us. You can send it privately by clicking My Account > Messages.

    Hi @Zyxel_Judy

Just a note it that I cannot see any practical issues so far. And not any port flapping. All seems to work ok. But those messages worries me…

A start is that you tell me what that message actually mean. Is it a software bug, is the switch about to fail even if it seems to work ok, or what? I can for sure say it is not that several cables are bad, just like that, when just replacing the switch to Zyxel :)

I sent you a full tech support file as a private message. Please let me know when you have investigated it.

    PS
Just an extra note. Maybe you should create a ticket for change so that you give low priority in the switch kernel when generating tech support file. This tech support generating can for sure affect switch connected devices as CPU goes 100% for a minute… But DONT focus on this! This is just a side note. You probably don't generate this that often…

    Hi @peos42 ,

The logs you've seen are related to the PoE issue. Since you mentioned not experiencing any practical problems, could you clarify if you're using adapters for the Cisco switch and camera?

If you're not using adapters, please try enabling Force AT mode on the affected ports (Ports 6 and 7) on the switch to see if the PoE logs gone.

The path: PORT > PoE setup

    Hi @Zyxel_Judy

As I have sent the tech report I guess you can se the switch is delivering power. So to be clear… I am not using any PoE injectors. The Zyxel Switch is delivering power. And before it was my old switch with no problems for years.

Now… The switch ports did not flap up and down when these messages appeared. And they did not loose power. So the port uptime as well as the hardware powered have uptime that is longer than the time since that log message. So again…. I have not had any problems. But still, it worries me and I want to know…

What does these log messages mean? I guess the "Pse" part stands for "Power Source Equipment", i.e and end device that is powered.

Is the log message logged when the voltage on the AC side fluctuates to much?
Is it a bug in the Switch OS code?
What in the code triggers the messages?
Or will it indicate I will see a hardware failure soon?

    Tnx in advance

    Hi @peos42 ,

Based on the information collected so far, it seems that the XS1930-12HP generates the PoE log messages while the Cisco switch and camera use the switch's PoE functionality without actually losing power. This differs from the scenarios we've encountered previously.

At this point, we cannot determine the root cause of the log messages from the current data alone. To investigate further, could you provide remote access to the switch, TeamViewer access information, Switch IP address, and Switch password?

This would allow us to collect underlying data and conduct a deeper analysis.
For security, please send these details via private message (My Account > Message).
