[NWA130BE] Since 7.20, iPhone 16 toggles between WiFi and Celluar
Freshman Member
Hey Zyxel community,
I have 4 NWA130BE distributed in the building and basically configured exactly the same way (except individual properties) and supposed to work as a "mesh" network. Their coverage overlaps. Until 7.20 this worked well but since then I noticed (particular for two APs) that from time to time an iPhone 16 connects and disconnects all the time. It seems to fully connect but then loses connection immediately again. This happens only with the iPhone. All other devices continue to work well.
Workaround solution: Restart the suspected AP. After that it works immediately until a couple of days later the same thing happens again.
Assuming many people use iPhones, has this been reported already?
Cheers,
Chris

Hi @Flachzange
Could you help to collect the diagnostic file after this issue happens? This will record the logs when the iPhone disconnects and it will help us to check this issue.
You may send me a private message with the diagnostic file (please zip it before upload).

I have the same issue with an NWA130BE at home. Clients disconnect and those that remain connected struggle with connectivity. Rebooting the AP resolves the issues but within a few days it happens again. Previous versions of firmware were fine. 7.20 ACIL.2 remains problematic but I've just upgraded to ACIL.3 so let's see if that helps.

Hi @Zyxel_Melen , I was finally able to collect some logs and provided them via private message to you. Thanks!

Update:
Based on our analysis, the disconnection of STA “c6:dd:9a:*” was triggered by a “disconnect by STA timeout or STA left” event.
From the hostapd logs, we observed that the AP received a DISASSOC frame from the STA, indicating that the disconnection was initiated by the client device itself.
Also, the iPhone is connecting to 2.4 GHz, where signal performance may be less optimal.
Please check whether the power-saving mode on their iPhone is disabled, as extended idle periods may cause the device to disconnect automatically.
If is disabled, please help to have the adjustments below:
- Reduce the 5 GHz channel width from 160 MHz to 40 MHz
- Configure the SSID profile to use 5 GHz and 6 GHz only

This is what happens. I love the products because when they work without bugs they work very well. Most of the time they always blame the client device for the issue.
I would say to try this, disable 802.11k/v. So my issues attended from that being enabled.

Agree and operating without 2.4 GHz or without 802.11k/v is not an option. I even have 802.11r enabled. I bought those products because they are supposed to support these functionalities flawlessly. But I also understand we need to somewhat narrow it down.
At the same time I don't believe its an issue with iOS, nor 2.4 GHz or the channel width.
The roaming stuff is more likely especially as I have multiple APs that are potentially all reachable from certain spots. The issue occurs only in a specific area with line of seight of 2 meters to the AP.
I have now compared my config files 1:1 and did some further finetuning. All APs are now operating on the same config line by line. Let's see if that changes something.0 -
Hey @Flachzange, were you able to resolve the iphone issue of disconnecting and reconnecting constantly, within seconds? Thanks in advance for the help.

Not yet, I need to further test and observe. It happens only very rarely here and I have not found a way to reproduce it.
