FWA505 Cellular Broadband drops after 24 hours

I've started using FWA505 and it's been fine since installed at the start of September, until the last couple of weeks.

I only use it for cellular broadband, there is no wired WAN, and a single connection from the LAN port to the WAN port of my main router.

The only configuration is to switch off all wifi, switch off LAN DHCP and change the LAN IP from the default, and switch on IP passthrough.

I'd upgraded the firmware to the latest at installation, and also upgraded to the latest again when I started getting issues. The firmware update to V1.60(ACKO.2)C0 hasn't made any difference.

I'm using an O2 SIM (consumer). I'm guessing the issue is perhaps related to DHCP renewal, but I don't see any way I can influence that for the cellular broadband.

Whilst it didn't really have any impact, I can see that previously I was getting an alert from my main router regarding temporary disconnections from the Zyxel FWA505 (essentially disconnected and immediately restored) every few days, which I also assume was potentially related to successful DHCP renewals.

Any ideas what the issue may be now?

I've tried a factory reset, or at least I thought I had - all settings defaulted except the admin password. This made no difference.

As it stands I'm having to manually reboot the FWA505 every day to restore service.

    Hi @roblindsey,

    Welcome to the Zyxel Community!

To better assist with further investigation, could you please enable Zyxel Support Access and provide your org. and site name, if your FWA505 is registered in Nebula Control Center (NCC)?

Additionally, if possible, could you check the differences in cellular signal status between daytime and nighttime? Some ISPs implement power saving features that may cause the device to disconnect from the service at night.

As a temporary workaround to minimize service disruption, you may configure an automatic reboot for the FWA505. In NCC, please navigate to:

    • Site-wide > Device > Mobile Router > Maintenance and set a scheduled reboot according to your preference.

Please note that this option is not available in the local web GUI on this model.

I set the scheduled reboot yesterday to do this daily as a temporary measure.

I don't think it will be down to signal strength overnight as I've been rebooting it at different times of day. If I reboot at 11am, then it will stay up until 11am the next day.

I've set remote access and sent you the details.

    Hi @roblindsey,

Based on the information collected so far, we have not observed any abnormal behavior directly related to this issue.

Since the disconnection occurs at fairly regular intervals of around 24 hours regardless of the power saving features at night, this behavior is more likely related to the cellular network side, such as IP lease time, session lifetime, or periodic re-authentication policies applied by the ISP. We therefore recommend checking with your ISP whether any such policies are in effect:

    • Cellular session timeout or forced re-authentication
    • IP lease or PDP context renewal intervals
    • Power-saving or session management mechanisms applied to data-only SIMs

As a temporary workaround, the scheduled reboot feature configured via Nebula Control Center remains the recommended approach on the FWA505 to reduce service disruption. Please let us know whether this solution works acceptably for your usage scenario, and we will continue to monitor and follow up accordingly.
