FWA515 cellular fallback without backup activated.
Freshman Member
Hello everyone,
I've been living something strange for 2 weeks. My fwa515 connected to FTTH as the main WAN folds into cellular WAN for no apparent reason because the FTTH connection works well.
So I deactivated the WAN backup and the phenomenon is still happening!
You can see it on the attached ping tests that go from 6ms in FTTH to around 35ms in cellular.
My fwa515 returns to the FTTH WAN after 3h30 or if a shutdown and reactivate ETH WAN.
I'm in firmware 1.60. My fwa515 is in router mode, same for the ftth modem (double NAT).
Do you have any idea? A way to have more logs?
Thanks you!

Hi @Sharks
Thanks for the information! I checked the device's Nebula connection and it certainly using cellular WAN to send traffics. I have started further investigation, and we will update you once we get further info.

Hi @Sharks
May we access to your organization and check your FWA515's current settings? This allows us to figure how to check this case.
If we may access, please reference this FAQ to enable Zyxel support access, so we can use remote configurator to check your FWA515. Please also share your organization's name so we can find it in our org list.

Hi @Sharks
May I know the timestamp of "this phenomenom continues"?
I'm accessing to your FWA515 now, and I see something need to be investigated.
Additionally, may I know if your FTTH is static IP or dynamic IP? If is static IP, may you send me a private message for the static IP information? This can help us to investigate this issue. Thanks!

It started around 0.40 am this night.
My public IP address is shared with 3 or 4 other client (CG-Nat) and seems to be renewed after a long period (6 month or if I restart the box) on my FTTH Connection. I will send it to you on a private message.

would this be the WAN Backup with ping if Primary WAN goes down? whats it set to? maybe try another ping source? what could be happening is your ISP drop ping causing you to go cellular.
I reported a problem with my FWA510 in testing about this option and its said to be fixed
[eITS#250701995]When backup WAN IF in service, user traffic will
be interruptted periodically due to checking primary WAN status
operationI have not tested this as don't really need that option but wanted others who may need this to have trouble free internet.
from what it sounds like the FWA515 may have something similar or if its the same code base still not right?

Hi @Sharks
We want to focus on the WAN backup is enabling first. Could you help to add some settings?
- Creating a new APN with the PDP type configured as IPv4 at > Network Setting > Broadband > Cellular APN.
- Enable WAN Backup
These allows the device to ensure maintaining stable Ethernet check and allows us to narrow down this issue. Thanks!
